This guy can’t see why his Mom’s tradition hurt his wife’s feelings.
I know that Christmas gets us all a little excited, busy, and maybe even stressed… but this lady might be taking things too far. She has a ‘tradition’ I believe it’s crazy, controlling, and offensive, but that’s just me. And while you read this story, I’m gonna go ahead and hug my mother-in-law and tell her how grateful I am that she’s not like this.
This guy is wondering if he’s wrong for calling his wife ‘unreasonable’, after she decided to bail on Christmas dinner with his family, due to his Mom’s tradition. Well, all families have traditions, but nobody has this one. His Mom makes the women in the family send dessert samples before Christmas. And if they’re good enough – according to her opinion alone – then they can bring that certain dessert at the Christmas family dinner. If the supreme Christmas judge likes that dessert, it will be included in the ‘food menu’.
I’m sorry, but that’s not how we do Christmas in my world. This celebration should bring families together, not divide them or offend anyone for their cooking skills. I would have just brought my dessert and eaten it in front of that witch. Or stopped attending Christmas at her house, which is what this woman eventually did.
Her husband, however, didn’t understand her decision and called her unreasonable for not wanting to go. I guess he was used to this tradition and didn’t find it completely insane. He sure got a reality check after posting his story on Reddit.
Then, understandably, this happened:
