When Google Street View was first implemented, I would spend a lot of time ‘walking’ through my neighborhood to see if I recognized any faces. Then, one day as I was exploring the world from my laptop, I actually recognized my brother in one capture – running after the google car, like the idiot he is, LOL. But there’s a lot to be seen if you spend a lot of time on those maps.
Some people have spotted their loved ones… people who they lost. And seeing them there, in front of their houses, doing what they always did, must have felt incredible. On the other hand, others have spotted their loved ones doing what they weren’t supposed to do. Anyway, considering it’s impossible to travel these days, exploring the world via Google Street View it’s the only way to ‘travel’.
Jon Rafman is an artist who has been ‘walking’ around the world via Google Street View for years, even before it was impossible to travel. And the things he’s uncovered are amazing. This definitely is a good way to see the reality on the other side of this world.
